National Safe Boating Council Awards

Inspired by Hannah with

Waves of Hope Grassroots Outreach Funding

On behalf of the National Safe Boating Council and U.S. Coast Guard, Inspired by Hannah, has been named a recipient of grassroots grant funding from the National Safe Council’s Waves of Hope program for the 2023 boating season. Waves of Hope and this grassroots outreach funding project are produced under a grant from the Sports Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the United States Coast Guard. This award will enable us to expand our boat safety initiative to reach more families and boaters. Our mission is for boaters to keep safety at the forefront of their minds. We have created boat safety packets that include a U.S. Coast Guard mandatory onboard equipment list and a pre-departure checklist of essential items to review before pushing off the dock. We have collaborated with Sarah and Adam Lawrence from TowBoatUS Kent Narrows & Knapps Narrows to develop a “Boating Resources” sign that is currently being placed at private and county boat ramps. The centerpiece of the sign utilizes a QR Code that provides valuable information such NOAA tide cycles, marine forecasts, and other important resources in real- time to prevent accidents or injuries while boating. The most critical aspect of the Waves of Hope grant is to show the measurable impact Inspired by Hannah is making on the boating community. The number of packets distributed in the 2023 boating season will be tabulated and data will be collected on the “Boating Resources” signs QR code scans.

The Ash Family would like to thank the National Safe Boating Council, Waves of Hope organization, and the United States Coast Guard for their incredible support as we continue to work together to help keep our boating community safe. It is our hope that by reading Hannah's story our safety initiative will make an impact on you and your family.

Why Inspired By Hannah?

Hannah was unique. Hannah stood out. Hannah was inspiring. Even on her graduation day she loved bringing joy and life to the milestone she had achieved. As you can see in the photo, Hannah wrote, “Catch Ya on the Flippity Flip” on her graduation cap. Who writes that? Only someone who is confident and understands that it is OK to standout and be yourself.

The Ash family experienced a devastating loss when Hannah died in a tragic boating accident at the tender age of 23. Hannah had an incredible zest for life and was an inspiration to many. It is our hope that by sharing Hannah's story, we will empower other young women to find value in our resources and community.

Hannah was light years ahead of herself and accomplished much in her short life. She graduated from Towson University in Maryland with a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing. Prior to passing she landed a newly created position as Membership and Marketing Director at Talbot Country Club in Chester, MD.  As with many young female adults who are entering the workforce Hannah faced difficult challenges yet was amazingly resilient and viewed obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow.

A phrase best used to describe Hannah is “That Girl Won’t Quit.” She pushed through adversity while continuing to hold her head up high. Those who knew Hannah had the opportunity to witness her  incredible smile and engaging light. Many were unaware that she suffered from anxiety and had significant food allergies. Hannah turned a debilitating health issue into an opportunity to share her passion of living a healthy life style and created a fitness Instagram for like-minded individuals.

Hannah will always be remembered for her smile, sense of humor and the love she had for her family and friends. Simply put, Hannah wanted to be liked, loved and to love others.

According to research from the National Academies Press, there is a significant lack of guidance available to young adults between the ages of 18-26. If we want to empower the next generation of world changers, we must equip them with the tools they need to succeed personally and professionally.

Inspired by Hannah is a non-profit public charity committed to providing high-quality resources that champion young women to be the best version of themselves. Won’t you join us in empowering the next generation of young women to have the support and community they need to better our world?

Does Hannah’s story sound inspiring to you? Hannah wasn’t perfect, but she had a community of like-minded young women and mentors who guided her on her journey.

You don’t have to be alone in your journey either. Join a community of women who carry the same passions as Hannah and develop into the young woman you were made to be.

Boat Safety

The Ash family is committed to boat safety education and preventing other potential accidents from occurring. We want to make sure that anyone who pilots a vessel begins the planning of their journey with a pre-trip safety checklist and is aware of extreme tidal changes before they leave the dock.
